When Doing Less Means Feeling More:

On letting go of the idea you always have to hold it together

For most of us, the idea of slowing down sounds nice in theory — but in practice, it feels uncomfortable. It can even feel wrong.

We’re used to being in motion. We measure our days in what we get done. We feel useful when we’re needed. And in all of that, we rarely pause to ask: What would it feel like to receive, instead of always giving?

Slowing down invites us to do just that — to take our hands off the wheel, to notice how our bodies feel when we’re not moving a mile a minute, to trust that it’s safe — and necessary — to let ourselves be supported.

It can feel restless at first. When you choose to slow down, there’s a good chance your mind will race ahead — scanning for something to fix, something to finish, something to worry about. The impulse to reach for your phone, fill the silence, or make yourself useful is strong.

But that’s not weakness — it’s just habit. We’ve trained ourselves to find comfort in doing. Stillness isn’t familiar, so it feels uncomfortable. But that edge is where something shifts. It’s where you learn to trust that rest has value, even if you’re not earning it.

It’s a simple idea, but it’s not easy. Stillness can feel foreign if you’re used to noise. Receiving can feel selfish if you’re used to pouring yourself out for everyone else. But the truth is, you can’t run on empty forever. There is strength in knowing when to stop — and when to let yourself be cared for, too.

This is what we hope to remind women of through Inner Bloom — a women’s wellness day retreat designed to help you slow down, settle in, and practice the art of receiving support.

You don’t have to earn it. You don’t have to do it alone. You just have to be willing to take a breath, soften your grip, and allow yourself to be held — even for a day.

If this speaks to you, I’d love to invite you to Inner Bloom — a women’s wellness day retreat where you can move gently, quiet your mind, and practice receiving support in good company.
